Killeen H-E-B Volunteers Support Operation Homefront’s Back-to-School Brigade® Program

National nonprofit organization Operation Homefront (OH) distributed 220 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to Fort Cavazos military children and clients in our town on Saturday, July 20, 2024, as part of their 17th annual Back-to-School Brigade®(BTSB) program. More than seven dozen volunteers showed up to enthusiastically serve our local military families in the Killeen/Fort Cavazos area.

Volunteering with the Killeen H-E-B team at this event was a pleasure! Through H-E-B’s Operation Appreciation program, the team donated teacher’s kits to 220 military families and clients in the Killeen/Fort Cavazos area, adding valuable tangible resources to OH’s Back-to-School Brigade® program.

Thank you, Killeen H-E-B volunteers, for serving our local military families with us on July 20, 2024, at Texas A&M University-Central Texas. Together, everyone achieves more!

MLK Day of Service 2023

MLK Day of Service 2023 Banner

The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service is a defining moment each year when Americans across the country step up to make communities more equitable and take action to create the Beloved Community of Dr. King’s dream. While Dr. King believed the Beloved Community was possible, he acknowledged and fought for systemic change. His example is our call to action.

MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. During the last quarter century, the MLK Day of Service has grown, and its impact increased as more Americans embraced the idea that citizenship involves taking an active role in improving communities.

On Monday, January 16, and the days surrounding, American Veterans Mission, AmeriCorps, and the Killeen Service Platoon invite you to:

  • Engage with your community and create constructive action;
  • Act on Dr. King’s legacy of social justice and equity; and
  • Recommit by volunteering to serve others. You can clean up a public space, mentor a young person, or help those who are food insecure.

We cordially invite you to volunteer with us locally by signing up for our volunteer opportunity scheduled on January 16, 2023, at Carl Levin Park. Please click this link to view and sign up for this volunteer or community service opportunity.

Together, we can strengthen ties to our communities and one another while we address critical issues that divide us.
