Board Member Highlight: Kevin Martin

The American Veterans Mission’s team wants to highlight one of our newest board members, Kevin Martin, for continuing to serve with us in promoting altruism and volunteerism. Kevin Martin, who became a member of AVM’s Board of Directors on 04/03/2021, stated, “I am grateful to get to work with American Veterans Mission and help out our veterans and our community. It is a blessing for me to get to help out others. We get to meet lots of unique individuals. I love to film video footage and edit it and turn it into a story.”

Aside from filming and video editing, Kevin also enjoys camping and fishing. He loves to travel and see new places, and to create new ideas inspired by his travels. However, there are times that Kevin simply likes to hang out in the backyard with his wife, Diana, around a bonfire using his favorite firepit.

Thanks, Mr. William Taff!

The American Veterans Mission’s team of teams wants to thank Mr. William Taff for inviting our executive staff to learn more about our organization over a hearty meal at the Acropolis in Harker Heights, Texas, on 10/22/2021. Mr. Taff sat down with our CEO, Vice President, and a few other board members to discuss our organizational mission, vision, and purpose. Our team appreciates Mr. Taff’s interest in what we do with our partners to promote philanthropy, altruism, and volunteerism in our local communities and his offer of heartfelt support for our endeavors.

We also like to thank Mr. Samir Halabi for briefly joining the group to say hello to our team. We appreciate his taking a few moments to greet us and make us feel more welcomed in the establishment. Finally, we want to give thanks and continued appreciation to all of our community partners for their ongoing support and commitment to our mission and vision as we continue to create a visible impact in our local communities. Together, everyone achieves more!

Congressional Veterans Commendation

The American Veterans Mission‘s team of teams wants to congratulate Richard J. Archer and Ken Cates for receiving a Congressional Veterans Commendation from Senator John Carter on 10/09/2021 at Texas A&M University-Central Texas!

The Congressional Veterans Commendation is a nominations-based program designed to recognize the wartime sacrifices and peacetime community involvement of residents of the 31st Congressional District of Texas.

Mr. Archer and Mr. Cates continue to serve our communities even after retiring from the U.S. Army. These gentlemen, along with the other congressional veterans award recipients, strive to help others in need and promote altruism, volunteerism, and community service wherever they go. Well done, and congratulations once again!

Community Partnerships

The American Veterans Mission’s team of teams is pleased to announce the beginning of our community partnership with the Bravo Company, 62d Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), 4-5, 69th Air Defense Artillery (ADA) Brigade’s Soldier and Family Readiness Group (SFRG).

On 09/23/2021, senior leaders of the American Veterans Mission‘s executive committee met with the unit’s command team and SFRG advisor, Michelle Ramirez, to finalize our partnerships and to discuss how we can impact positively each other and our local communities. We are thrilled to have this new community partnership with the B-62 THAAD’s SFRG, and we look forward to working with them to create a visible impact on our communities, decrease the effects of social isolation through volunteerism, and increase personal and professional networking opportunities. Together, everyone achieves more!

Board Member Highlight: Aaron J. Mandzak

The American Veterans Mission (AVM) wants to thank Aaron Mandzak for continuing to serve as one of our directors. Being geographically located more than a thousand miles away and serving as a board member for AVM is not easy since we are a very hands-on organization with our involvement in the community. However, Aaron’s passion and commitment help him continue the spirit of service to others in North Carolina.

As a veteran, Aaron’s time away from work always consists of building a brighter future for his family and community. The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to burden us all with barriers, but he and his family continue to break through them every chance they get. Before the pandemic, Aaron began to network with the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce and with a few local resource centers. Since then, he has moved his residence to Lexington, NC, and his networking has been more focused on individual business owners and leaders in his community.

Aaron meets with multiple local small business owners who are veterans and also those who support veterans. Aaron continues to build these relationships, and he plans to re-engage with community entities to establish a North Carolina AVM base. As a board member, Aaron is taking these steps slowly and carefully to ensure complete safety and so that we are confident in our investments.

Aaron’s wife, Rachel, also contributes to increasing our network and building community relationships. As a Military Science Instructor at Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem State University, Rachel has engaged with many military leaders, including General (Retired, U.S. Army) David Petraeus and Vice Admiral (Retired, U.S. Navy) Forrest Faison. Additionally, Rachel always carries the Presidential Proclamation from the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Acts of 2012 and 2017. It includes the proclamation paying tribute to our Vietnam veterans, a lapel pin, and a Vietnam veteran sticker. Aaron and Rachel have presented this to deserving Vietnam veterans whom they meet on any given day.

Thank you, Aaron and Rachel, for continuing your service with us at the American Veterans Mission. Together, everyone achieves more!
